The austerity of the war’s years was becoming a distant memory for the US, whilst elsewhere it would take almost to the end of the decade for the good times to truly return. But perhaps the two of the most important events in the history of fashion were about to see the light of day, 1950 Diners Club gave an unsuspecting world the credit card, and 1955 a gigantic chasm was about to open up between the youth, and those that felt they were unfortunate to be called their parents, as Western society bore witness of the cinematic release from the bowels of hell of Blackboard Jungle which was the breached birth of The Teenager.
