Top To Tail 1960’s
The opening salvo was the slick 60’s, that saw both men’s and women’s fashion reflected in very clearly gender defined close figure flattering conservative wear. Men’ s suits had Lapels that were narrow trousers were narrow shoes were so narrow they were often compared to footwear from the medieval period. The colours of choice were greys blacks and dark blues. In the UK even the teenage driven style of the Mods emulated the look of commerce, and though the cut was more Italian that British it still was very carefully chosen and always immaculately sharp.
Then as the decade entered its final half of the decade the metaphoric coin was flipped and heads was now tails, and so began the season of the Hippie. Once it came into full bloom, you could not envisage a more extravagant contrast between the last and the first five years of the decade. Grey and blues were replaced by dayglo straight and narrow was now wide and dyed, and girls will be boys and boys will be girls. The protagonists at the vanguard of the movement were groups such as the Beatles The Doors and the Rolling Stones
